MTN Digital Infrastructure, the parent company of Bayobab, has announced the appointment of Richard Nunes as General Manager – Planning and Implementation, effective 1 August 2026.

Richard brings more than 20 years of leadership experience across telecommunications and digital infrastructure, with deep expertise spanning mobile, fixed, and enterprise environments. His extensive background in network implementation, solution architecture, and large-scale transformation programmes positions him strongly to support Bayobab’s continued growth and strategic ambitions.

Richard served as General Manager: Network Implementation at MTN South Africa, leading the delivery of national network expansion and transformation initiatives. Over the course of his MTN career, he held multiple senior roles, including Head of Planning and Solution Architecture, driving large-scale fibre rollouts and technology transformation programmes. He is recognised for strong strategic leadership and disciplined execution, aligning technology delivery with business value. Richard has also played a key role in industry initiatives spanning fibre expansion, fixed-mobile convergence, and 5G, alongside significant regulatory engagement.

Richard holds a Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering, specialising in Telecommunications, from the University of South Africa (UNISA), and an MBA (cum laude) from Henley Business School. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) at GIBS, with research centred on the strategic and regulatory implications of infrastructure network convergence.
